Limewire

Please be Patient, and Check ALL these postings often. We are sorting out over 20,000 Screen captures representing thousands of research hours. The history of CNET/CBS Interactive promoting Piracy software is staggering. Over 1,000 different software offerings, Several hundred instances of mentioning copyright infringing uses, often with known copyrighted songs or famous band names. Although some of these pages are ten years old, you must remember that CNET has been distributing LimeWire software since at least February 2001.

We have substantial evidence going right up until the year 2011. Moreover, just since CBS bought CNET, they have distributed over 50,000,000 downloads of LimeWire alone! Over 250,000,000 downloads of LimeWire in Total.
Please, keep in mind as you review this evidence, "What was CNET's Intent?"

LimeWire for Macintosh Computers has been downloaded from CNET's Download.com at least 25 Million Times. Those figures are never mentioned in the press.

The Addition of the Mac and Linux versions alone boost the total LimeWire CNET Download.com figures to over a QUARTER OF A BILLION!

There are STILL international versions of LimeWire and all of the downloads from LimeWire Pro to discover.

"Rival services prepare for Napster onslaught"
Published on CNET March 1 2001

"File-sharing is just the tip of the iceberg--the Gnutella network has the potential to become an alternative not just to Napster, but to the World Wide Web itself," LimeWire CEO Mark Gorton said in a statement.

I cannot find a working copy of the video embedded in this article.

Copyrighted Artist "RadioHead" shown in LimeWire sample Screen shot on CNET Download.com. This is an unusual example. Radiohead's new album was not popular in the USA until a RadioHead CD was offered on Napster 3 months before it's official release. Literally, the Napster release did make Radiohead famous. However, the RadioHead group was signed to a LABEL. The Label as far as I know owned the copyright.

CNET constantly shows Copyrighted Material in LimeWire Screen Shots, right up until 2010.
This sample if from a Front Page feature "Spotlight" on LimeWire. The known copyrighted band in clearly shown in the search field.

CNET Download.com: Power Downloader: "You don't Need Napster to Keep the Music Playing"

The following article from CNET's Download.com was offering advice to current Napster Users to recommend what alternative p2p software to use when the Napster system finally gets shut down.

LimeWire was one of the Five P2P software downloads recommended. Click any image for a full screen view!

CNET Download.com QUOTE:

"But while Napster will, in all likelihood, become a fee-based service, can downloaders hungry for free music find MP3s outside of the famous feline file-sharing application? Power Downloader to the rescue: While it may be too late to save Napster, our man has collected five alternatives that will let you download and share music to your heart's content."

"Freenet is supposedly safe from the prying eyes of Big Brother. Unfortunately, the project is still under development, and it is not user-friendly; for example, it doesn't have a working search function at present. Nevertheless, Power's keeping an eye on this download; it has the potential to be the RIAA's worst nightmare."

The following August 2007 CNET Download.com Blog posting opens with THIS bold confession of LimeWire's use;

QUOTE: "LimeWire is best known as the latest in a long chain of software that makes it easy to find and download music for free, replacing Napster, Grokster, eDonkey, Kazaa, and all the other applications and networks that shut down or cracked down on the sharing of copyrighted material."

Then embedded in the same article is a CNET Download.com button directly linking to the LimeWire Software. CNET Download.com / CBS Interactive went on to distribute over 80 million additional LimeWire downloads

After Napster was Shut down as a Free Music Piracy Service, by Federal Court Order, CNET and ZDNET offered many different ways for Napster users to continue to use the Napster system. CNET offered additional downloads such a Napigator, and tutorials to effectively allow Napster users to continue using the original Napster System.

Both CNET and ZDnet offered published comparison tests using known copyrighted media and suggested alternatives as informed guidance to the former Napster users. Here LimeWire is recommended in glowing words. QUOTE: "After big networks such as Napster were shut down, programs such as LimeWire stepped into the gap. At first glance, this product shines"
CNET is promoting the LimeWire software as a suitable replacement for Napster.

Preston's Picks
"After Napster the Beat Goes on"
Limewire Included

I Swear that every hour that I search, I find two more Articles Like THIS! Look at the Links around it! Look at the inline links in the article.

"After Napster, The Beat Goes On" ZDNET March 3 2001 "Preston's Picks"

I truly believe that a Federal Judge will not be pleased with the tone of these articles.

• Shows Contempt for the Courts and the rule of Law:

The report begins; "Ignore What the Courts Rule about Napster"

"Ignore what the courts ultimately rule about Napster: free file-sharing is here to stay. The music industry can unleash all the lawyers in the world, but it still can’t stop it. There are dozens of alternatives to Napster, and more are popping up each day."

• The writer specifically choses "Limewire" as "My Current favorite file sharing software"

My current favorite file-sharing software is LimeWire. This one rates high on my coolness scale: It puts each of your search terms in its own tab, and in this way lets you have many searches open simultaneously. It also lets you share all kinds of files – not just music files – such as programs, pictures, and videos.

• Recommends Guidance for Suitable Alternatives: Under the Header of "Find Free Music"

"If Napster dies, fear not. File sharing will still live and thrive,
thanks in large part to Gnutella and the Gnutella file-sharing network."

• Recommends "LimeWire" ( Gnutella based) as a superior system;
"It also lets you share all kinds of files – not just music files – such as programs, pictures, and videos."

• Recommends Lime Wire as a Faster System

"It puts each of your search terms in its own tab, and in this way lets you have many searches open simultaneously."

• If Napster Dies, You can Keep using it through these Live Inline links to the software,

"Even if Napster does go down the tubes, you’ll still be able to share files using it,
through what are called OpenNap servers – private file-sharing servers not controlled
by Napster and thus largely beyond the reaches of the music industry.
Napigator lets you use Napster in concert with OpenNap servers."

• The P2P Software downloads are lined up along the right side of the page,
WITH CD Ripping and Burning Software for Easy
Reference.

• Article ends with a link at the bottom right thats called "Rip It, Burn It"

    DUDE YOU GOT MY SUPPORT!

i signed all the petitions, i sent the stuff to representatives, i tweeted, and i created a facebook status and linked all of my friends to it, one name at a time.

is there anything else i can do?

  2. Got a couple of questions. 1) Do you regularly screen capture web sites? 2) How do we know these are true screen captures? It seems a little strange that you've been keeping track of this for, what, 10 years? While I'm willing to believe your information, I'm not willing to share it w/o vetting it. BTW, since I've never downloaded any of these programs (or even looked @ downloading them) I have no frame of reference for your info.

  3. I've had friends I've explained this to say "what? steal their own music? why?" Here is why:
If you sell a song you have to give a royalty to the singer, songwriter, producer, etc. You lose a big cut of your profit. If you pirate a song and put ads on the page, those people can't take a cut.

  4. Fun fact about Kazaa and grokster.

they are the exact same program with a skin swap.

They actually forgot to fix the taskbar to stop saying kazaa when you hover your mouse over it in the earlier builds.

  5. How can you even come here, comment and ask if this is legit or not? It would take even longer to actually fake these sites. Also don't freaking comment before you read it all, BECAUSE YOU MISS THE POINT and IMPORTANT information and LINKS, which would change your opinion and blow your ape-shit, if you did.

And who the freck are you to question this information? Don't you love your.... internet?

And those of you question the Internet Wayback Machine... try it for yourself! Try it on any website that's been around for years. You'll quickly discover that it returns REAL copies of former webpages.
